There are those who want workers/volunteers/employees/team members who are PASSIONATE. They want them to be COMMITTED or DEDICATED. Therefore, when they find someone who is like that, they immediately attempt to recruit them in order to achieve their goals.

This isn’t bad…but it’s not the best! You see, the motivation behind that passion and dedication is extremely important. Also, what that passion or dedication is directed towards is also extremely important.

So what should we really look for when finding people to partner with us? Love.

Yes, love.

ONLY love.

Passion is an emotion that draws from the well of the heart. What is in the heart is what motivates passion and dedication.

Hitler was passionate.

He drew from the well of hate.

That’s why I don’t look for passionate people. Passion can have wrong motivations. Passion comes and goes, just like any emotion.

I look for love. A heart that loves will always be passionate about the object of its love.

If I don’t love the sinner, the broken, the hurting and the lost…I will have no passion to reach them.

Love is the motivation. Passion is the vehicle that carries it. If you help the poor, they will not think twice about your passion…they will think about your love.

Love is what we should look for.

Passion can be reserved for THINGS. Real love is reserved for PEOPLE.

I don’t look for people who simply love to play guitar to be on our church’s worship team. I want those who love people, whose guitar playing is a tool they use to love God and others more.

This could apply to any person in any place.

When looking for more people to join your team, don’t look for passion…look for love.

So spot on, Jeff. Passion by itself is weak, especially at the site of troubles. Love, on the contrary, persists. In addition, the fruit of passion is shallow- it may attract people but not really impact them. But the fruit of someone with the character of love is deep & powerful on people. Great post!

    wow.. My eyes were opened.

Yes, I was once passionate about serving in the Church.
Thank God for Jesus. for revealing His grace unto me.

sometimes, you don’t feel love towards someone but you do it anyway.
sometimes I am starting to think whether Love is emotion at all.
where emotion is fluctuating, like passion.

grace and peace. thanks for this inspiring post
