The Colors of Change

13 Nov

We all know that with the changing of seasons, leaves change on the trees.  In my backyard I have a fruit tree.  I don’t have too many trees that have changing leaf colors.  But, I recently realized that the apples on our apple tree started changing from green to red.

This interested me.

As the apples on my tree continue to grow and mature, their color naturally changes as a result.  Or better said, when then color starts to change on my apples, I know that they are growing up!

When the apples are mature, there will be a few things that are distinctly noticeable:

They will be good to look at.

They will taste good to eat.

They will be nutritious for my body.

Galatians 5:22-23 states, “22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”

In many places of the Bible, trees are symbolic of human beings.  Fruit is that which comes as a result of maturity in our lives through the work of the Word of God (Jesus) and His Holy Spirit.

Read this (Psalm 1:1-3):

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

A follower of Christ who is growing in maturity through His Word and through the power of the Holy Spirit will naturally show the colors of change.

Those around us will notice the difference.

And, what will others receive when they experience the fruit of our lives?

They will look at us and realize that they are seeing something good!  Our happiness, our joy, our love will impact them.

They will experience us through relationship and will leave with a good “taste in their mouth”.  They will enjoy their experiences with us.

They will take what we have to offer (the presence of God) and they will be transformed as a result (nutrition for their souls).

Take a look around you.  See the people who are around you…friends, family, saved, unsaved…everyone!  How they are being impacted by your presence is the greatest test of maturity in your own life.

Let’s continue to show the colors of Christ!
