Life is risky.
It’s true. Everything you do or don’t do has risk attached to it. Here’s what you can do:
Do nothing. Many people believe that by doing nothing they are avoiding risk. On the contrary! When something should be done and yet you do nothing, you have stepped into a big puddle of risk!
Do without thinking. This is the favorite of those people who believe risk is natural, so why bother avoiding it at all! This group of people includes those who jump out of airplanes without parachutes and other crazy things. This is typically not wise.
Think, then do. This is the way to go. No person or organization advances without planned risk taking. So, instead of doing nothing, or doing something without thinking, plan on thinking, then doing. Create a plan, measure the risks and rewards of different options, make a decision, then go for it!
What type of risk category do you fit in?
