The picture above is of a video that shows how quickly people responded after the bomb went off in Boston. You can watch the video here.
In light of the bombings in Boston, I started to think about courage and fear.
We all noticed that while some people ran away when the blasts occurred, others ran TOWARDS them.
This is not a post to make those who ran away feel bad. On the contrary! It is the natural human instinct to move away from danger…that is normal and to be expected.
Regardless, there always seems to be a group of people who run towards the danger rather than away from it.
We admire them and oftentimes view them as people without fear.
There is nothing further from the truth.
Courage is NOT the absence of fear. Courage is a choice to stand up and press forward in the midst of it.
Were those people who ran towards the explosions afraid? You can believe it! But, their courage was shown by not allowing fear to have the last word.
Courage is something we need in the big AND small things.
Thank God for the many heroes in Boston.
What would it look like if we chose to allow courage to rise up in our lives?
